Music Review: Adie Camp

Music Review: Adie Camp"Don't Wait"

Songs you've probably heard @ EXALT or in the DOCKS:
Overwhelm Me / Sufficient

Adie's expressive voice makes Don't Wait such a unique and compelling offering. Thematically speaking, Don't Wait 's just as multi-faceted as it tackles everything from maintaining an eternal perspective on life (“Don't Wait”), to relying on God—even in our weakest moments (“Sufficient), to a new understanding and appreciation of God's grace (“What Have I Done?). In the process of making the album, Adie says she also felt a new resolve against spiritual complacency and a renewed desire to truly make every day count. “I've been a Christian for a long time, and it's easy to get into a comfortable routine,” Adie confesses. “In Revelation, it speaks about not losing your first love. And I think the Lord has really been challenging me not to just be faithful in taking time for devotions each day but to be a person who really desires to spend time with Jesus and not compromise.”
Pastor J.'s take:
To know me is to know that if I could be anyone else in life... it would be Jeremy Camp! J/K ~ kinda not really! Anyway, this is his wife. Many of you know that his first wife passed away of cancer when they were both very young and that experience inspired the writing of his first album and thrust him into full-time ministry. During this time Adie was the lead singer of the progressive Christian Rock group "The Benjamin Gate". FFwd about six years and she releases her first solo CD with many songs co-written with her husband.

This CD is a song of praise yet not a P&W disc. She is able to affirm and remind the listener of God's amazing love through the gift of Jesus Christ. Another bonus ~ your parents would have no problem hearing this one blast out of your room or headphones. NOW, don't get me wrong... it's not your parents style BUT... they could certainly enjoy it if you'd be willing to share! So, here's my thing ~ If you are a fan of Jeremy Camp you are OBLIGATED to buy this! If not, buy it anyway!

Style: Contemporary/Pop Rock

American Idol ~ by YPJ

Ok, so I am UNASHAMEDLY a fan of American Idol. I can’t help it… there’s music, story lines, Randy says “Yo, Man”, and honestly… I had a crush on Paula Abdul back in middle school (1989-90)! Yes, my wife is aware of that! Plus, some pretty average looking people have become recognized for who they are and not just what they look like. Bald guys too! Anyway, it also gives me and my mom something to talk about.

You have to admit that there has been some serious talent come out of this marketing machine of a reality show: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and my pick last year, Chris Daughtry (bald). There’s been a lot of duds too… as with most sports rankings… it’s NOT good to be #1. Regardless, it all makes me think about how we (You and I) market Jesus. In all of our Christian slogans, bumper stickers, Jesus fish variations, t-shirt, hat and bracelet wearing display of devotion… have we lost sight of the “person” of Jesus Christ in our lives?

I can’t stand when Idol is in the early episodes because we see very little of the “person”. Once it gets down to the top twelve more and more of the “person” is revealed and much of America falls in love with the “person”. Sure, often the top 3 have a sense of charisma that comes from being a performer… but America (and especially my mom) often overlooks the outward appearance as they’re drawn closer to the “person”. Next thing you know, there is a sense of relationship that forms!

There’s really no mention of what Jesus looked like in the Bible. It appears to be more important that we know who the “person” was, what He did, and what He stood for. These things reveal the character and establish the integrity of the “person”. It helps us to understand why so many were willing to abandon their tradition (or lack of) and become His followers.

I guess it goes to say, what does America see when they see you? Do you seemingly wear your faith more than you live it? As a “person” does America see Christ in you? There’s a lost world out there who want to believe in something. They want to root for the underdog who rises from adversity and overwhelming odds. Someone they can connect with and be inspired by. Jesus didn’t come to earth to gain a vote and be #1 (in fact, He frequently avoided that)… no, He came as a “person”! Get to know him!

7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." ~ 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

15 But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” ~ Joshua 24:15 (NLT)
